Acting on tips from readers, longtime Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers reporter Joe Crankshaw began a five-month investigation into how much money nonprofits that claim to help veterans actually give to needy veterans. Crankshaw combed through state records and Internal Revenue Service data to show that many groups collecting money for veterans causes are spending high amounts on fundraising and other expenses. In some cases, very little money donated is actually reaching veterans.WPTV Video Report
